Topwater Action and Nice Strioer

David Heath and I fished on Monday, 10/23/17, and had an outstanding catching trip. We left the dock at first light and found some nice stripers close to the bottom. They were very finicky, but we did land 7 nice stripers before the real enjoyment started. They were taking Z-Man, 5", Pearl, Scented Jerk ShadZ on 3/4 ounce jigheads.

Technique: Jigging the Bottom - Cast the lure out and let it hit the bottom. Swiftly pick the lure up off the bottom by swiftly snapping the rod tip from 9 o'clock to 11 o'clock. Follow the lure back to the bottom with a tight line. Keep this up until the lure is back at the boat. There were times with some suspended stripers hit the lure while moving it up through the water column, but most came off the bottom.

Around 9am the birds started blitzing the water as the stripers were taking topwater lures.  We left them biting around 10:30.  They were taking Stillwater Smack It Classic Black Lure with the back hook removed. Also, the lure pictured a Heddon, Saltwater Chug'n Spook. The barbs have been crushed and the hook points have been cut off on back treble hook on this lure. I tried to run this Heddon lure without the back hook but it will not run correctly.
